Once an illegal P2P site, Napster has turned from the error of their former ways, and is now on of the premier music subscription site for legal music downloads.
We had a lot of fun testing out this service, and it seems that is has most everything you would need in music subscription service.
Features
We absolutely loved how you can find the most popular music with Billboard's top music charts integrated right into Napsters software. Those who are obsessed with popular music will really like this feature. Very nice touch indeed.
They make it very super easy to download the music you want in your library so you don't have to depend on an internet connection for streaming audio all the time.
You can send playlists to your friends or other napster members, and browse other members collections if you wish. You can play the music you've downloaded on up to 3 PCs which we though was a really great added bonus.
For most artists that we searched for, Napster came through. However, there was a few upstart artists we couldn't locate, which we thought would most definitely be available. Napster definitely focuses on the bigger players in the industry, but that doesn't mean that you won't find lots of the more obscure indie artists out there.
Ease of Use
Napster's software installed very easily, and felt quite responsive. However, we did have a couple minor downloading issues, but nothing that caused any real problems.
Finding the music you want is easy. You can search by artist, track title, album, or Napster member. You can also browse music many other ways including by genre or sub genre, top artists and songs, new releases, just added, and a great new option, indie labels.
Support
Napster has basic email and online support. We preferred using their online helps to get answers quickly.
Conclusion
Napster wins out as one of the most feature-rich music subscription services out there. Well worth a look.
